Counter-Strike: Global Offensive       Despite the unhappy campers that protested against Valve on the early morning of August 10, 2011 for failing to release Half-Life 3, the company delivered other startling news for fans. On Friday August 12th, Valve issued a press release confirming the 2012 release of Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Valve is a little company you might have heard of before. You know the creators of best-selling game franchises such as Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress. Perhaps they are most recognized for pioneering Steam, a game platform that distributes and manages over 1,500 games directly to a community of more than 30 million players around the world as stated on their website. And now they are coming back even stronger with the anticipated release of Counter Strike: Global Offensive.   The game will be playable at PAX Prime this month and Eurogamer Expo in September. The company promises that the game will features new maps, characters, and weapons as well as new gameplay modes, matchmaking, and leader board. As quoted on Steam:   “Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombardi at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise.
