{Waiting on Wednesday #3} Etiquette & Espionage and Dare You To

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where bloggers can rant and rave about any upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. For my addition I will be spotlighting both an upcoming book AND video game release that I am dying to get my hands on!

WOW

Again this week, I am only shining the spotlight on books (which means they need to hurry up and make some games I WANT to play). This week, there are two books that I desperately need to get my hands on, despite the fact that I have to break my book ban and purchase them as soon as they are on sale. Yes my dear friends, these two books are worth going to book rehab.

Etiquette & Espionage
Title: Etiquette & Espionage
(Finishing School #1)
Author:  Gail Carriger
ISBN-13: 9780316190084
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Publication date: 2/5/2013
Pages: 307
Grab It: B & N/ Book Depository

Overview:

It’s one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It’s quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother’s existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea–and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right–but it’s a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine’s certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage, and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school.

First in a four book YA series set 25 years before the Parasol Protectorate but in the same universe.

Dear, dear, dear Ms. Gail Carriger, I love you. I adore your novels. I would gladly wallow in the mud for one of your books. Thank you in advance for writing what I know will be an awesome Steampunk adventure. And for those of you who are new to Carriger and her work, check out my review of Changeless (Parasol Protectorate #2) .

Dare To You
Title: Dare You To
(Pushing the Limits #2)

Author: Katie McGarry
ISBN-13: 9780373210633
Publisher: Harlequin
Publication date: 5/28/2013
Pages: 304
Grab It: B & N/ Book Depository

Overview:

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all…

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1) by Katie McGarry was one of the best audiobooks I had the pleasure of listening to last year. It literally blew my mind and rocked my Contemporary Socks Off!  I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book in the series even though I’m heartbroken it won’t have the same main characters. But that’s okay, I know it will still be an awesome read.
