This week I’m being slightly greedy (since I don’t have a game to discuss) and showcasing three books that have been on my radar for a while. Three books I desperately NEED!
The Bluebeard fairy tale retold. . . .
When seventeen-year-old Sophia Petheram’s beloved father dies, she receives an unexpected letter. An invitation—on fine ivory paper, in bold black handwriting—from the mysterious Monsieur Bernard de Cressac, her godfather. With no money and fewer options, Sophie accepts, leaving her humble childhood home for the astonishingly lavish Wyndriven Abbey, in the heart of Mississippi.
Sophie has always longed for a comfortable life, and she finds herself both attracted to and shocked by the charm and easy manners of her overgenerous guardian. But as she begins to piece together the mystery of his past, it’s as if, thread by thread, a silken net is tightening around her. And as she gathers stories and catches whispers of his former wives—all with hair as red as her own—in the forgotten corners of the abbey, Sophie knows she’s trapped in the passion and danger of de Cressac’s intoxicating world.
Glowing strands of romance, mystery, and suspense are woven into this breathtaking debut—a thrilling retelling of the “Bluebeard” fairy tale.
Gimme, gimme, gimme already! The cover plus the synopsis have me so intrigued I’m literally crying inside to get this one. It sounds so dark and mysterious and I have no idea what the “Bluebeard” fairy tale is but I MUST know, HAVE to know right now. Give it to me! I’m reduced to begging… *le sigh*
After the violent death of her father, 17 year-old Zelia loses her younger sister, Dylia, during an abduction at a foster care agency. It turns out her sister Dylia isn’t just pretty and sweet – she’s illegal. In the year 2150, DNA must be pure by law, and anyone with enhanced genes face death. Zelia’s only allies are the freak-show inhabitants of her new, underground foster home. Along with the unexpected love of a very strange boy, she will need her flaws and their illicit traits to save the only family she has left.
Look at that cover…..need I say more? Well sure I do, read the overview. Okay, still not convinced yet? Freaks, illegal DNA, I don’t think it can get any better than that!
Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
Fetal position. Fetal position. Fetal position. Okay, okay, okay, breathe… I have to know what happens to Alina. If you didn’t know or somehow missed the EPIC book last year called, Shadow and Bone, then drop everything you’re doing. Read it. Marvel over its EPICness, and then get ready for the sequel. I cannot wait to see where Bardugo is taking our characters next. The magical world she’s created is one that I think belongs right up there with Hogwarts. Yeah, it’s that good. If I get this book, I might just have a heart attack.
So what about you? What games or books are you waiting on?
