Trouble In Texas

Overview:

THERE’S A FOX IN THE HENHOUSE

Inheriting the most notorious house of ill repute in Texas can spell trouble for a girl’s reputation . . . especially when she’s Elizabeth Murphy, Bramble’s prim and proper librarian. Yet when she discovers a buck-naked cowboy handcuffed to a four-poster bed, she forgets all about the town gossips. Elizabeth has sworn off men, but the stranger’s kisses melt her resolve faster than ice cream on a hot summer day.

Waking up in Miss Hattie’s Henhouse isn’t how Brant Cates reckoned on getting to the bottom of his great-granddaddy’s murder. The plan was to solve the centuries-old crime, then get the heck out of Dodge. But after meeting Elizabeth and discovering that the buttoned-up beauty is a sexy siren in disguise, he just can’t pull himself away.

Now Brant needs Elizabeth to finally put his past to rest, but is she willing to risk her future on Bramble’s newest bad boy?

 1.  Welcome Katie to Mother/Gamer/Writer! For those readers who are not familiar with you or your work, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a mother of two daughters.  A wife of thirty-six years.  A grandma of two beautiful granddaughters.  An avid reader.  A horrible golfer and knitter.  A writer of contemporary and western contemporary novels, including the Deep in the Heart of Texas series.

2.  Do you have a particular writing style? Any odd writing habits?

Not really.  My stories are character driven.  So I don’t write with an outline.  Usually I just have one idea or thought that helps to develop the main characters and I go from there.

 3.     Whom would you consider your favorite authors, or where do you draw inspiration?

I love LaVyrle Spencer.  She has such an amazing voice and her characters live and breathe.

 4.      What books are currently on your bookshelf?

A variety of LaVyrle Spencer, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Sandra Brown, James Joyce, Shakespeare and books on writing.

 5.      Your latest novel is Trouble in Texas (Deep in the Heart of Texas, #4) . What is the background behind the story, and can you tell us a little bit about the series?

I got the idea for the story when I woke up one morning with the theme song to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  And I started thinking, what would’ve happened if the Chicken Ranch hadn’t closed down?  Trouble in Texas is the result of that question.  Miss Hattie’s Henhouse is a dilapidated house of ill repute with three old “hens” living in it.  Elizabeth Murphy is the straight-laced librarian who’s inherited the hens and the house.  Brant Cates is a hot cowboy searching for his great-grandfather’s murderer.

6.      What was your favorite scene or chapter to write?

I loved writing the shower scene. Brant gets into the shower with Elizabeth after they spend the night together.  I loved Brant’s nonchalance and Elizabeth’s flustered shock over having this big ol’ cowboy taking up her shower.  It was great fun.

 7.      Were there any ideas or character you had to leave out that you would like to revisit or work into another novel?

Not really.  I hold nothing back.  It all gets put into whatever book I’m working on.

 8.      Is there a message, or underlying theme in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

That all women have strengths that they need to discover and nurture.

 9.      For all the fans who are swooning over your scrumptious covers, tell us, who is your favorite cowboy?

My favorite cover cowboy?  Or my favorite character cowboy?  I love my first cover because…well, it was my first and the cover model sent me the sweetest email.  As far as my characters go, whatever hero I’m working on is the one I love most.

 10.  Lastly, in three words describe Trouble in Texas.

Sexy.  Texas.  Romp.

About the Author:

Katie Lane’s interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a ’65 mustang-okay, so maybe it wasn’t romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the owner of that mustang and would love to hear from her readers.
