True Blood, Transformers, Game Releases and News

After watching the first 15 or so minutes, my initial thought was WTF?  I know Alan Ball said he was traveling away from the books, okay that’s fine and I understand imaginative creativity.  But he took the books and ran sideways with them.  True Blood is about as far away from the books as humanly possible.  This show is so sideways I can’t tell if it’s going in the right crocked direction.  So now that I have wrapped my head around the first couple of episodes, and I think I have a general idea of the direction he is going (vague direction), let’s talk about what’s happened so far in the story.

Well it truly is great to be back in Bon Temps, although the beginning scenes take place in fairy land.  From Sookie and Barry, to Sookie’s grandfather, everyone seemed to be in Fairy.  How’d they get there?  That answer is still quite unclear, but from the look of things once entered, no one leaves this time warp.  And as usual, things are not always what they seem and those sweet innocent looking fairies turn out to be nothing more than supernatural crazies out to capture Sookie.  So how does our lovely MC escape her impending doom this time?  Her grandfather pushed her off a cliff of course.  And alas he did not survive but was however successful in saving his sweet granddaughter and passing on a pocket watch to her brother Jason.  Tear.

Now, it’s been twelve and a half months since Sookie “disappeared”.  Which in turn mean our beloved show returned with our favorite characters living out their lives as if she died and never existed.  Even her brother Jason didn’t waste any time selling the family house to the highest bidder.  Sad, but funny nonetheless.  So what have the characters been up to for the last year?  Here’s a quick rundown of what everyone’s been up to.

Bill is the new King of Louisiana (surprise, surprise) and loving every minute of it.  He’s a natural-born leader and wearing his new crown with nothing but pride and a smile.  Lafayette and Jesus are still together and holding on strong, and Jesus is still trying to bring the witch out of him.  Tara on the other hand is an ass kicking, super hot, lesbian cage fighter named Toni living in New Orléans.  Thank goodness they changed her hair, giving her the sexier and edgier look that she deserved.  Eric and Pam are still the same.  And can I say Pam is looking hotter than ever! I don’t know if its make-up or Botox, but Pam looks a few years younger (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing).

Sam is running with a new pack of shifters, making friends and freeing himself from all of his anger.  Shooting his brother rattled him to the core and I honestly think he’s trying to change for the better.  Tommy is becoming a Hoyt in training thanks to Mrs. Fortenberry.  She’s training him right, even has him praying over their meal.  A little creepy but I am sure Tommy has an ulterior motive and does not mind being used for the time being.  Jessica and Hoyt moved in together,

but life for the love birds appears to be less than satisfying.  As we see in the second episode, Jessica is having a rough time adjusting to only drinking from her human lover.  As put so eloquently by Pam, she was not meant for monogamy.  She’s a hunter and needs to hunt.  As for Jason, well if you have read the books then you knew this was coming.  Even though it happened in a twisted way, he’s in the process of being turned into a panther.  Good gracious.

For this season I predict we as fans are not going to be disappointed, slightly confused, but not disappointed.  I hoping (at least for this season), Alan Ball will keep some of the major book plot points in.  Dead to the World, the fourth novel, was by far one of my favorite novels out of the series and I hope that the creative minds behind the show will do it justice.

TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon

I know some people/blogger/critics have given this movie an unbelievably low score, but I thought Transformers was anything but a flop.  Yes it was over-the-top, action packed, and covered in 3D killing with a busty blond taking up to much screen time.  But all in all, to end a trilogy Michael Bay created a top-notch masterpiece with this movie.  There were a few mini plots taking place throughout the entire movie.  Without giving too much away for those of you who are hesitant to see it, I will say that the overall story arc took what happened in the previous two movies and summed it up in this two-hour destruction/explosion frenzy.  It introduced new characters like the ominous Sentinel Prime (voiced by the great Leonard ‘Spock’ Nimoy), and also brought back some of our old favorites.  At times it had you wanting to cry, I won’t say why, and at others it had you cursing at the screen, cheering on the good old citizens of Earth.  It was a crazy wild ride that I will gladly be taking again because I think the movie is worth the hype and expensive 3D glasses.  I loved Transformers and I am really sad to see the franchise come to a close but I am glad it went out with a bang, literally.

As usual I am going to conclude this post with this (and last) weeks new releases in video games.  Enjoy!
