Game Releases, E3 Madness, Dead Island, and More

Hey community it’s been another fabulous week in gaming.  Everyone is steadily preparing for E3 next week so the internet has been bombarded with game trailers, speculation, and predictions for the big Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo press conferences.  Of course it’s my job to stay on top of it all.  So check out this week’s E3 explosion.

PSVita?

What is this you ask?  Well its the leaked name for the soon to be revealed NGP, Sony’s Next Generation Portable gaming device.  I don’t know if this is truly the final name or not, but supposedly the name was leaked from a marketing brochure.  Could  Sony be following in Nintendo’s footsteps with crazy names?  Who knows, let’s just hope the NGP is all it’s hyped up to be.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception Beta, June 28th to July 4th

I know all the PS3 nerds are singing praises since PSN is back and the Uncharted beta is about to be unleashed.  And of course IGN reported all the juicy details on what you can expected so you don’t get your virtual butt kicked while playing.

When does the multiplayer beta start and conclude?
If you have one of the coveted vouchers from Infamous 2 or a PlayStation Plus subscription, your start date is June 28th. Everyone else can expect access on July 4th.  The tentative end date is July 13th.

What’s the level cap?
25

What modes are included in the multiplayer beta?
Players can enthusiastically enjoy 9 modes: Team Deathmatch, 3-Team Deathmatch, Team Objective, Free For All, Plunder (i.e. capture the treasure), High Stakes (gamble with your XP and cash), and 3 co-op modes.

Team Deathmatch, Team Objective and Plunder are all 5v5. Three-Team Deathmatch is 2v2v2. Free for All and High Stakes are 8 players.

Which maps are in the beta?
There are 2 multi-level maps, one is an airfield and one is a French Chateau.  And both look promising with collapsing structures, planes, and plenty places to climb.

What Uncharted 3 power plays are in the beta?
Power Plays are one-minute events that’ll occur in blowouts to give the losing team a fighting chance.  Fans can expect 4 in this summer’s beta.

  • Marked Man – A person on the winning team is marked, and the losing team gets 3 points if they kill him. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each kill and a special medal if the Marked Man doesn’t die.
  • Cursed – The winning team sees all characters as skeletons and friendly fire is turned on. Each time the losing team gets a kill or the winning team kills one of its own, the losing team gets two points. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each member of the losing team killed.
  • Exposed – The winning team’s location is revealed to the losing team. The winning team gets double cash for each losing team member killed.
  • Double Damage – Losing team inflicts double damage. Winning team earns double cash for each kill.

Will boosters appear in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
Yes, boosters — equipped abilities that affect gameplay — are making a return in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.  This time however fans can expect something a little different when they use them in the beta. Every time you choose an ability and use it you earn experience points. In hindsight you’re leveling up your profile and your abilities individually when you play the game. Listed below are the 8 boosters that you can expect in the beta.
Booster Slot 1 Options

  • Come Here – See the opponent that killed you on your radar until he or she dies.
  • Retaliation – Spawn with the Power Weapon you were killed by.
  • Cloaked – Opponents won’t see you on the radar and you can’t be heard.
  • Weapon Expert – Gives you the ability to add additional mods to you weapons.

Booster Slot 2 Options

  • Back in the Saddle – Reduces your respawn time.
  • Bargain – Decreases the cost of Medal Kickbacks.
  • Power Hunter – See the location of Power Weapons.
  • Daredevil – When you taunt over a defeated opponent, you get extra ammo.

What Medal Kickbacks can you expect in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?

  • Smoke Bomb – You vanish in a puff of smoke.
  • Speedy G – You get a speed boost.
  • RPG – You instantly spawn an RPG.
  • Cluster Bomb – One grenade explodes into multiple grenades.

What guns are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
AK-47, G-Mal, and the Dragon Sniper.  Pistols are also included, and the above Medal Kickback confirms RPGs.

Are Mods in the beta?
Yes, there are 2:  Clip Size and Call Out (which shows the location of enemies). For the pistols, you can increase the total amount of ammo and the rate of fire for the Arm Micro.

What playable characters are in the beta?
Nathan Drake (of course), Sully, or a Treasure Hunter. And if you want to be a Villain, you’re stuck as a Pirate. All characters are completely customizable, so players suit up and have fun making your avatar.

Gears of War 3 Trailer

If you are not ready for Gears 3 that either means you don’t own an Xbox, or you just have no clue.  The epic trilogy is sadly coming to an end this fall.  But fans are already anticipating a heroic farewell in the action packed final game.  Check out the new campaign trailer below.

New Dead Island Gamplay Trailer

Nothings better than killing zombies, and if you have seen the previously released trailer for Dead Island you either A) loved its somber and depressing overtones in hope that this game will deliver ruthless craziness, or B) you hated it.  I take pride in admitting that I am in the A category.  Although the trailer was the most depressing thing I have seen since the movie The Road, I want this game to blow my mind when it comes out.  I don’t want another Left 4 Dead knock-off; I want something original, exciting, and scary as heck.  And from the looks of the latest trailer, I think I might get my wish (all except for the scary part)! Check it out below.

As always I leave you with this week’s new releases.  Enjoy!
