Overview:
Warriors of the Rift
Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world-or send it spiraling into chaos.
Half-demon, half-human, Nix de la Fuente is accepted by neither and mistrusted by both. Determined to prove she’s more human than not, she devotes herself to solving crimes between the world’s mortals and its most unsavory undead. But her latest case brings her face to face with the one vampire she could never resist . . .
Called in to investigate a string of violent murders, special agent Tobias Caine isn’t interested in rekindling his relationship with Nix. Yet one look and the vampire knows his need for her is as strong as ever. Once, their all-consuming passion nearly cost Nix her fragile hold on her humanity. Now, as their hunger for one another intensifies, exposing them to an unimaginable danger, it could cost them both their lives.
My Thoughts on Kiss of the Vampire:
Kiss of the Vampire takes a very fresh approach to vampires, shifters, demons, fae and many other supernatural beings. You see, these beings have actually come through from another dimension, but they take the bodies and lives of humans when they come through the rift. They live in secrecy for thousands of years, but now their existence is out in the open.
Humans haven’t been alone for quite some time, so it isn’t any wonder why they have become upset. Not only do they have the Extra-dimensional (ED) beings to deal with, but now, after many centuries of procreating with humans, there are half-breeds too…
Nix de la Fuente is the human liaison to the Council of Preternaturals, and she is also a half-breed mix of human and demon. While she hides this due to the prejudice she would likely receive, she doesn’t hide it from her friend Dante MacMillan who is a detective on the Special Case Squad. They find themselves at a crime scene where a vampire (a once close friend of Nix) has been brutally murdered. While she must find a way to grieve through her passing, she has a nail thrown in when the new vampire liaison arrives on scene: Nix’s ex-love, Tobias Caine.
Now Nix is forced to work alongside Tobias, the man who broke her heart yet still drives her crazy, all while investigating multiple vampire murders. Tobias still loves Nix, but left so she could hold on to her humanity. It takes every ounce of strength, for both, to hold back what each truly feels inside.
Will they succeed? Can they solve the case without hurting each other again? Is there a deeper entity at play with the murders? I guess you’ll have to read it to know.
My goodness I really enjoyed this book. The story alone was worth its weight in gold. It was an easy read with a lot of mystery, suspense, romance and erotic undertones. Add in a sprinkle here and there of action and it all adds up to a pretty great story.
The plot weaves back and forth between Nix and Tobias. It tackles not only their individual issues, but also the problems they once faced as a couple. Underneath it all there are still the murders to solve, a possible conspiracy and tons of sexual frustration -so there is quite a bit going on. The author did a marvelous job at connecting everything, and never leaving questions or confusing the reader.

Sadly I am like the socially awkward mouth breather, and I tend to have a sarcastic streak. Both send people off running. Oh, and I have some of the worst grammar when it comes to punctuation which sends editors flying at me with meat cleavers.
When I am not writing or reading, I am usually shoveling food into my mouth, while browsing the internet, and telling my pink elephant to put down my mastercard. Seriously, it likes to buy shoes…
