Showcase Showdown (7): Books I Crave & Games I Demand

Welcome to this week’s edition of Showcase Showdown: Two Books, Two Games, a new way to bridge the nerdy gap between gaming and reading.  This is a weekly highlight created to place a spotlight on books and games that are on one of my various Wish Lists.   Each week’s list will consist of…duh…two books and two games that come out, and my top reasons for wanting each of them.  Books will range from comics and manga, to romance and non-fiction.  As for games, I will feature any game (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, DS, iOS, etc.) that is on my MUST-Play-Now List.  If you would like to join along, leave a comment and let me know what’s on your must-read and/or must-play list.  Blogger’s can also link to the post on their blog and discuss their picks with their readers.  You don’t have to be a gamer, nor do gamers’ have to be avid readers, just find a couple of things you are looking forward to the most  and let me (and others) know why.

Going Toe to Toe This Week:

More YA love with Everneath and Diabolical. And a couple of gaming favorites, Gears of War 3: Fenix Rising Map Pack and SoulCalibur V.

[title3_wrap]MUST-Read Books[/title3_wrap]

I want Everneath about as bad as I want my coffee first thing in the morning when I get to work. I have heard nothing but spectacular things about this book and I must admit all the hype has me curious. It’s also one of the books for the DAC Challenge this year, so I hope to read it as one of my 12 books for the year. And the cover is phenomenal and makes it that much more irresistible. Want, WANT, WAAANT!

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

First of all, why have I never heard of this series? It has creatures, the afterlife, werewolves, and demon dogs, and I’ve NEVER heard of this series as much as I adore these types of books? I think I am absolutely flabbergasted.  Seriously look at that smoking hot cover and tell me you aren’t craving to read it? Go ahead, I’ll wait…

Since I completely missed this AWESOME train ride, I guess I will just have to pick up the entire series.

Diabolical (Tantalize #4)

Prepare for a hell of a ride as Cynthia Leitich Smith calls on characters from her previous novels – and conjures up new ones – for a climactic showdown.

When “slipped” angel Zachary and his werewolf pal, Kieren, arrive under suspicious circumstances to a mysterious New England boarding school, they quickly find themselves in a hellish lockdown with an intriguing assortment of secretive, hand-picked students. Plagued by demon dogs, hallucinatory wall décor, a sadistic instructor, and a legendary fire-breathing monster, will they somehow manage to escape? Or will the devil have his due? Best-selling author Cynthia Leitich Smith unites heroes from the previous three novels in the Tantalize Series – including Zachary’s girl, Miranda, and Kieren’s love, Quincie – along with a fascinating cast of all-new characters for a suspenseful, action-packed clash between the forces of heaven and hell.

[title3_wrap]MUST-Play Games[/title3_wrap]

I do not play a ton of fighting games. In fact, I have a short list of favorites consisting on Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive 4 (err that might have something to do with the female Spartan), and Street Fighter. With that being said, there is something about Soulcalibur that gets my fighting engines going, purposefully making me thirst for this game. And Ezio Auditore of Assassin’s Creed will be a playable character in this game. Oh boy, this is definitely a must buy.

Yeah, so go out and get it and maybe we can play a few rounds of multiplayer together.
