Showcase Showdown (4): HALO Glasslands vs. Battlefield 3

Welcome to week 4 of Showcase Showdown: Two Books, Two Games, a new way to bridge the nerdy gap between gaming and reading.  This is a weekly highlight created to place a spotlight on books and games that are on one of my various Wish Lists.   Each week’s list will consist of…duh…two books and two games that come out during that week, and my top 3 to 5 reasons for wanting each of them.  Books will range from comics and manga, to romance and non-fiction.  As for games, I will feature any game (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, DS, iOS, etc.) that is on my MUST-Play-Now List.  If you would like to join along, leave a comment and let me know what’s on your must-read and/or must-play list.  Bloggers can also link to the post on their blog and discuss their picks with their readers.  You don’t have to be a gamer, nor do gamers’ have to be avid readers, just find a couple of things you are looking forward to the most this week and let me (and others) know why.

Going toe to toe this week:

Halo: Glasslands and a Steamy Romance novel will battle bravely against the infamous Battlefield 3 and my personal favorite, Dance Central 2.

Halo: Glasslands

by Karen Traviss

  • Pub. Date: October 2011
  • Publisher: Doherty, Tom Associates, LLC
  • Format: Paperback , 464pp
  • Sales Rank: 216
  • ISBN-13: 9780765330406
  • ISBN: 0765330407

The Human-Covenant War may be over, but the age of good feelings has not begun. In fact, with the unity that war brings now gone, old divisions once again become visible. Even more ominous are rumblings of a new uprising in the heart of the former Covenant Empire. With dangers on all sides, the UNSC must somehow reassert its presence in hostile territories. A reliable author in a potent trilogy starter set in the post-HALO 3 world.

Why it’s a MUST-Read:

  • HALO, HALO, HALO, HALO. I don’t think I can say the word enough. I take pride in being the resident HALO nerd, so for me this book hits home more than any other.
  • The HALO universe in my opinion is one of the best around. For a video game turned into books, action figures, comics, and so much more, I can only sit back and stare in amazement.
  • In this novel we get the start of a new trilogy, a post-HALO 3 world, the return of Dr. Catherine Halsey, and maybe just maybe, another look at the planet of Onyx.
  • More Forerunners! HALO is nothing without Forerunners and their technology. What secrets can Traviss come up with to unveil in this latest installment? I have no idea, but I am dying to find out.

Ecstasy Untamed (Feral Warriors Series)

by Pamela Palmer

  • Pub. Date: October 2011
  • Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
  • Format: Mass Market Paperback , 384pp
  • Sales Rank: 192
  • Series: Feral Warriors Series
  • ISBN-13: 9780061794735
  • ISBN: 0061794732

They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .

Shattered by recent nightmarish events, Hawke feels his bond with his animal spirit weakening—and once it breaks, he’s finished. The arrival of Faith sends his life spinning even further out of control, for although she delights him and enflames his deepest primal passions, she’s promised to Maxim, the newest Feral Warrior.

Faith is drawn to Hawke from the start, but Maxim holds her in his thrall and has secretly bent her to his malevolent will. Though gravely damaged, Hawke is the only one who can end Faith’s slavery and protect the Feral Warriors from Maxim’s evil designs. But first they both must embrace the wild . . . and surrender body and soul to a forbidden, all-consuming ecstasy.

Why it’s a MUST-Read:

  • Two words: Feral Warriors
  • Next to the Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter, these immortals are my other favorite bad-boy warriors.
  • The Feral Warriors are a force to be reckoned with, smart, sexy, and oh so yummy.
  • Don’t forget the pink cover. A girl can never go wrong with pink.

Dance Central 2

  • Published by: Microsoft
  • Developed by: Harmonix
  • Genre: Music
  • Release Date:US: October 25, 2011
  • MSRP: $49.99

Why it’s a MUST-Play:

  • Most would consider Dance Central to be the ‘it’ game for the Kinect. One can argue that it did indeed bring the WOW factor to Kinect games. Now with this next installment, players get to experience the fun all over again with new features.
  • Newly added multiplayer support makes Dance Central 2 the ultimate party game. Two players can now dance cooperatively, or face off in dance battles.
  • Dance Central 2 comes equipped with 44 different songs and three default difficulty levels, also allowing you to import the track list from the original Dance Central.
  • So gamers get ready to shake your hips and laugh hysterically. This game will definitely put a player in a good mood.

Why it’s a MUST-Play:

  • In this gaming age, online multiplayer is the place where many shooters want to shine.  And of course Battlefield 3 does just that.
