Neutrogena Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer Review – Mink Brown ( #Crowdtap)
Being a woman of color, finding the right kind of makeup can be difficult, and sometimes downright frustrating. Something as simple as finding a foundation to match your skin tone can seem nearly impossible even with the huge selection of products that are available. However, if you love makeup and beauty products as much as I do, there’s nothing that will stop you from finding the products that will work for you and with you. For me, eye shadow colors that are highly pigmented and will show up on my dark skin are almost as difficult to find as foundation. Needless to say, I’m very selective when it comes to shadows, but I’m always willing to try a new product to see if it a) shows up on my skin, and b) if it’s long lasting. For review purposes, I received Neutrogena’s® New Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer from Crowdtap. How well did it work for me? Let’s take a look…
The Shadow… Neutrogena® Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer in Mink Brown
When I first received the product I was a little disappointed in the color selection. My initial thought was, “hey it’s not going to work on me because brown on brown does not mix” (at least that’s been my experience). Unless I’m using something like a MAC or Urban Decay highly pigmented product, these Drug Store shadows in brown just do not work for me. In any case, I was still willing to give it a shot.
Okay, the brown (bottom shade) was not as dark as I’d hoped it would be to create a smoky eye. I had to play around with the shades a bit to get my desired result. On the back of the palette are instructions on how it should be worn:
- Top shade: Lid: Color entire eye lid area
- Second shade: Highlighter: Sweep over brow bone
- Third shade: Creases: Blend into crease
- Bottom shade: Liner: Apply along lash line; smudge for intense smoky look
For review purposes, I followed the instructions above in order to create a smoky eye. As I suspected, the bottom shadow wasn’t all that dark on me. I had to apply a lot even though I had extra shadow primer on. The first and the third shade looked almost identical on me as well. In order for my eyes to even look slightly smoky, I had to cheat a little bit and use one of the darker shades from my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. After that, I think the shadow looked okay.
For a POC (person of color) be aware that you might have to apply more/extra shadow to get the desired effect. Especially if you are like me and are on the dark cocoa side of the spectrum. The color actually lasts all day and as promised, it did not crease. I did add more primer (even though it says primer is built-in) because for me personally, I knew I would need it for the colors to pop. There are more shades available and I am interested in trying out the darker shades in Plum and Smoky Steel. Plums always seem to look the best on my skin tone and from the images on line (the one above); I think it will look awesome. For everyone else, I would recommend it if you are looking for a long last shadow that’s highly affordable.
Have you tried Neutrogena’s® Long Wear Eye Shadow? What do you think of the shades?
