About the Book:

Larissa Ione's bestselling Demonica series has captivated fans with its sensual blend of dark passion and demonic fury. Now she takes you to another intoxicating world—where a dangerous clan of wild vampires rules the night...

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE

A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

The Review Banner

Bound by Night is my first Larrisa Ione book. I’ve wanted to read her for some time now, but my TBR is through the roof. When Diayll asked if I could fill in, I jumped at the chance.

Strong writing combined with a unique spin on vampires. This isn’t your “Twilight” vampire myth, not that there is anything wrong with that. Rooted deep in Native American lore we see the emergence of vampires with, IMO, awesome fangs and a dystopian setting.

Strong writing, in fact some of the strongest I’ve read in years, fills the pages and weaves an expert plot around the two main characters Nicole and Riker. I loved the enemy angle although you can see where and how it began; watching the two arrive at their *headdesk* moments was priceless. I felt it moved smoothly and worked both as a good dystopian and PNR read.

The sexiness was about a 3.5 flame rating, which worked for the book, as their romance didn’t overpower the plot or world. Anymore and I think it would’ve changed the book for me. I’ve heard Ms. Ione is known for her sexy scenes, but I preferred the more sensual approach, and still found it hot enough.

I’m looking forward to the next book and she’s made a fan for life as I’ve added all her books to my TBR! 5 controllers.

The Interview New Banner

  1. Welcome Larissa to Mother, Gamer, Writer! For those readers who are not familiar with you or your work, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Sure, and thanks for having me!

For readers who don’t know who I am, I’m the author of the very erotic ACRO series (written under the pen name Sydney Croft,) the dark, sexy, gritty Demonica series (set in and around an underworld hospital staffed by demons, vampires, and werewolves,) the connected Lords of Deliverance series (Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,) and the MoonBound Clan Vampires series in which vampires live in a world where humans have enslaved them and the battle is on for freedom. I’ve been writing since I was a kid, and after a stint in the USAF, 17 years of being a meteorologist, and spending some time as an EMT, I’m now writing in these worlds full time!

  1. Do you have a particular writing style? Any odd writing habits?

Not really…to either question. I pretty much just write. I need coffee, but that’s probably not too odd! If I had to label my writing style, I’d say it’s gritty and raw – I have a tendency to not censor myself, which leads to a lot of editorial comments like, “Um, this is a romance, so you might want to pull back on some of the gore.” Heh.

  1. Whom would you consider your favorite authors, or where do you drawinspiration?

My very favorite authors are Robert Jordan, Sharon Kay Penman, and Stephen King…who was a huge inspiration to me from the time I was a teenager. I credit him with my desire to write.

  1. Your novel is Bound by Night, and the premise of your world is deeply rooted in Native American tradition. What made you choose the Native American legends say over the traditional vampire myths or the tale of the Jumlin?

A few things, really. First, I hadn’t seen Native American lore mixed with vampires. Shifters and magic-users, yes, but vampires, no. Second, I’ve always been fascinated by Native American history, and third, my mother’s side of the family has deep Native American roots. My mother even grew up on a reservation, and my great-great grandparents hosted Chief Joseph’s Nez Perce tribe on their ranch. There are lots of stories there! 🙂

  1. Native American legends have always amazed me. Do you have a favorite?

I don’t know that I have a favorite, exactly, but I do find the legend of the Wendigo to be creeptastic, so much so that I included mention of it in Chained By Night. Remember…Stephen King was a huge inspiration to me! *g

  1. Lastly, do you have any advice for aspiring authors, or authors looking to publish their novels for the first time?

Learn the rules. I always say this, but it’s so true. I’m a huge advocate of breaking the rules, but in order to do it effectively, you first have to learn what they are. So read the ‘how-to’ books, learn about scene and sequels, structure, proper formatting, grammar…and then forget it all and write the way you were meant to. Let your voice shine!

This or That:

  1. Tea or Coffee? Coffee

  1. Reading or Writing? Depends on my mood, but I’d say mostly reading.

  1. (Books to TV) Walking Dead, True Blood or Game of Thrones? Eek! It’s a tie between The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Love them both.

  1. Books or Movies? Movies…if they’re well done.

  1. Sci-Fi or Fantasy? Gah…both! I prefer Sci-Fi movies but fantasy books. Mostly. I like the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings movies better than the books.
