After reading The Darkest Secret, I was once again reminded why Gena is master at story crafting and the reason I keep writing. The Lords of the Underworld series is the perfect example of what a series should strive to be, unique, interesting, funny, entertaining, shocking, and an all around good time that keeps you constantly begging for more! The Darkest Secret is one of the most delectable books out of the entire series (with my favorite being the story between Lucien and Anya in The Darkest Kiss).
Not to spoil any of the plot, here is just a taste of what you can expect:
This is the story of Amun the Keeper of Secrets and Haidee. If you are familiar with the previous Lords of The Underworld books then you will recognize that Haidee is the Hunter who killed Balen, a former Lord. At the beginning of the book she is captured by none other than the funny and cocky Strider. Upon returning to the fortress, Strider discovers that Amun is being guarded by angels. Unable to care for himself, the angels tentatively care for him as if he were a child by feeding him, providing IV’s, and strapping him down for his own safety. While being possessed/crazed by lower-level demons, Amun senses Haidee and reaches out to her telepathically. And thus a story of love and passion is born!
This book was an absolute delight! The twists and turns will keep you constantly on-the-edge-of-your-seat fighting, cursing, and falling in love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered reading romance novels. It helps if you have read the other previous installments in the series, but this book is wonderful enough to also stand on its own!!! (Keep in mind it’s also a great series to start if you are looking to break away from vampires/werewolves)
