About the Book:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter is back with a breathtaking Lords of the Underworld tale about a warrior trapped by darkness and the woman determined to save him
Having endured weeks of torture in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he’s determined to kill, no matter the price.
Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He’s also the only male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a choice: live apart…or die together.
Can I start this review off with yum? Seriously, I don’t think Gena could have written a sexier man than Kane. A man who’s literally been to hell and back and still knows how to seduce a woman. OMG. If you don’t know about The Lords of the Underworld, then I need you to stop everything you’re doing and read the first nine books. Yes, I said NINE. The Lords are deliciously captivating warriors who are responsible for opening Pandora’s Box. As a result they’re condemned to carry the demons inside them for the rest of their lives and each one is graced with a unique butterfly tattoo – a sexy visible mark of their demons . Oh, and along the way the kick major arse, battle gods of myths and legend, other supernatural creatures, and fall in love with smart, strong, capable women. *yes, major sexy time* *wink-wink*
The Darkest Craving is the sad, sexy, tragic, powerful, OMG HOT, story of Kane. Poor Kane. If there was ever a Lord that deserved to be loved and fall passionately in love, it was Kane. As the Keeper of Disaster, Kane is usually the one left behind. For fear of hurting the other Lords or some innocent bystander he usually hangs back and lets the others run into danger guns blazing. But this time around, Kane is the one doing all the saving. After being rescued by a a half-fae princess Josephina, Kane is thrust into a whole new world of supernatural. After being repeatedly “sought after/tortured” in hell, Kane doesn’t think he deserves attention, especially from a woman. Everything reminds him of the things he had to endure while down below. But, after Josephina rescues Kane and then begs him to end her life, Kane is left utterly intrigued by the beautiful woman who wants to die.
Okay, give me like five minutes to go all fangirl: Kane is usually not one of the prominent Lords in the other books. Of course he’s sexy (they ALL ARE SEXY) but because of his demon, he usually gets out-shined and less page time. So, going into this story I had no idea if I’d like him or not. In fact, I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of this man, with this immensely powerful demon, finding love when he ends up hurting everyone around him. Leave it to Gena to make me swoon away my afternoons and daydream in the middle of reading medical charts at work. I could not get enough of Kane. I kept finding myself screaming, “OMG’ and “He did NOT just say that”. Only later to add, “girl, oh YES he DID”. The Darkest Craving is laugh-out-loud funny. I didn’t realize Kane was so witty and…how can I put this…manly. What girl doesn’t want a protective Alpha hunk protecting her one minute and erotically seducing her the next??? So yes, even though we’ve never really gotten to KNOW Kane before now, it was so worth the wait.
Now back to the story. There is so much going on in this book. Cameo, the only woman Lord and the Keeper of Misery ends up having quite an adventure of her own. I have a feeling she’s about to have a wild ride (pun intended) if she ends up with…haha, can’t tell you read this book. 🙂 For fans of the series, there is also a lot of William, everyone’s favorite non-Lord. And of course we get to see more of the other Lords from the previous books we’ve already fallen in love with. And it’s nice to see how each Lord and their lady has progressed over the series (Lucien and Anya will ALWAYS be my favorites 😉 ). The narrator, Max Bellmore has the voice of an angel from a dark and twisted fantasy. So, if you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to him yet, then by all mean, GRAB these BOOKS!
Overall, The Darkest Craving is smooth, sexy, and wild. Gena is a master storyteller and I deeply enjoy falling in love every time I read another novel. I can’t get enough of these Lords and one day, I hope someone *cough HBO cough* will turn this into a show.
