Our Rambling Thoughts on Chapters 1-10:
H: I adored the opening scene even if I was pretty sure that it was Bones. Doesn’t matter, it was hot. I’m happy to see them both moving on, even if it they’re still not living worry free. We see that early on too, with the deaths of the masterless vampires.
D: I agree. I don’t know why, but I really like Cat a WHOLE lot more when she’s relaxed. And, for some reason, the books always seem to start out great to me (maybe because we haven’t seen any weird sh*t yet.)
H: Welcome back Tate. I don’t believe for a second that you’ve moved on, but Cat is 100% right. He didn’t bat an eye to drop everything and rub Bones’ actions in her face. But they all should’ve told her about Don’s illness.
D:I LOVE TATE…even though he’s gone cray cray. He truly cares about Cat and I can’t really blame him for keeping Don’s secret. That’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. In the beginning he didn’t have any loyalties to Bones so why wouldn’t he spill the beans on him? But he cares for both Don and Cat, and I think had the roles been reversed and Cat asked him to keep a secret from Don, he would have done that too. So no, I don’t fault any of them for keeping the secret. I think eventually one of them would have called her before he got worse.
H: Cat’s mom training for the team. Wow. I didn’t expect that, but I share Cat’s concerns as to her motivations. Granted, she moved on from her hatred of all things undead, but it took her years, and without Bones, Cat would still be at odds with herself.
D: I’m not the least bit concerned about Cat’s mom training with the team, I actually respect her a whole lot more for the decision. She does need to learn to protect herself and come to terms with what she is. If that’s her way of dealing, I don’t see any problems with it. As long as she has the help and guidance of the team, I think she’ll be fine.
H: Timmy. I always wondered if she would bring him back. I love the dialogue exchange between him and Bones. I had quite a few chuckles, and my favorite is the sparkle bit. Nothing against Twilight, but it’s still funny.
H: Cat. Thank you for finally growing the *&%$ up and not running out on Bones to save the day. It NEVER works. Bravo for learning your lesson … or has she? Only time will tell.
Menthos (I can’t spell it right, so I’m giving up.) has a new woman. Sadly, I wish I had read his book before this one like I did Spade’s story. I get that they’re supposed to be standalones, but I know he’s alive now, and therefore neither him nor his woman will die in their book. Kind of blows the suspense out of the door.
Oh and I almost forgot … the plot. Joan of Arc? Nice. There’s our mystery hybrid although I doubt they’re the only two. Someone said they’re the only ones known … I think Bones. So it looks like we’re ramping up for some vamp on ghoul action and not of the sexual kind.
D: Two things that crack me up..Tiny and Band-Aid. Who names these people!?!? The whole Joan of Arc thing…well, I’m trying to roll with it. But seriously? Seriously? Seriously? I don’t even know how to respond. LOL. Anyways, this book is starting off better than the last and I hope if doesn’t go off on its rocker because really, I want to LOVE it. It’s Mencheres Heater!!! MEN-CHE-RES!!! LMAO….I thought that was the funnest thing ever. And if you missed my image last week….I’m inserting it again because…dang he’s so hot!! Holy mother of pearl…yumm…
I’d overheard people having sex, having preternatural hearing since I was a child. But this was Mencheres, the solemn, somewhat scary vampire whose extensive powers unnerved me ever since I’d first met him. So it was another shade of weird entirely, hearing him hoot and holler like, well, a normal person.
