Our Thoughts on Chapters 22 – The End:
What an exciting conclusion that leaves the jaw dropping. Now seeing as this is a series, we can almost assume that Bones will indeed go after Cat. But let’s back track a bit.
One, the government deal … the men in black, eh. I kind of saw this coming. It’s not a stretch, but I hope we see more in the next book. What bothers me the most is that, I know humans. You’d think they’d want to test her or turn her into a science experiment. I get that they want her on their side, and she could train a secret team, but they’re human.
Next, mommy dearest is a biatch. The fact that she could give her daughter that ultimatum … she doesn’t deserve Cat at all. The woman doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air, and I’m itching for her to get eaten by someone.
Bones … le sigh, my poor, poor Bones. His heart, that unbeating heart will be seething for revenge. I think he’ll be true to his words, even after Cat did everything in her power to protect him. Even after the heartache she’ll pull him through, I know Bones won’t give up on her. She doesn’t deserve his love … they’re freaking vampires … I think he would have found a way to protect them all.
Favorite moment? Mommy getting punched by Cat. Least favorite? Cat sneaking out on Bones.
ZOMFG! That ending! What-the-holy-freaking-heck!??????
Did all that really just happen? Maybe since I’d been on vacation and had to play catch up, I was completely surprised that the “Men In Black” were real and would offer Cat a job. I think I was even more flabbergasted that she said yes! God Bones *Cries* I epically love him and melt every time he says Kitten. Okay, I’m gushing a bit and it seems I can’t stop swooning over this book. Why, oh why did it take me so long to pick up this series!???
Cat and Bones have hatched a clever plan to take down the infamous Hennessey for killing her grandparents and kidnapping her mother. Cat does something I thought she’d never do, she drank two pints of blood from Bones and gained his aged vampire abilities. Mad Cat is already awesome, but Vengeful Cat hyped up on vamp blood is freaking Ah – Maze – Balls! Loved it! Cat goes all Bruce Lee at the hideout and I was hooting and hollering the entire time. Calling the cops, freaking brilliant. Ramming the car through the house, freaking brilliant. I loved Jeaniene Frost’s writing style during this whole scene. Each moment was escalated by another fast-paced moment and the whole ordeal flowed so beautifully well, I could imagine myself right beside Cat and her silver knives.
Once the battle is over and the cops show up, one in particular shows a little too much interest in our heroine and decides to drive her, alone, to the station. Low and behold, blabbermouth spills all the details about the headman in charge, Oliver. Moreover, this spawns a plan in Cat who is hell-bent on enacting revenge. At the Governor’s mansion, Cat is able to single-handedly take down Oliver and his henchmen in another OMG-WOW battle scene and showdown. These last few chapters, we are able to see Cat really show off how much she’s learned from Bones and how she can now handle herself. She’s clearly made herself a formidable opponent, and I hope considering her decision at the end, she remains that way.
Cat in the hospital was hilarious! I think I am going to LOVE Tate! Don is questionable, but Tate just makes me go…awwwwww. But seriously though, Cat’s mother has got to die. She is such an ungrateful byotch I just want to knock her the hell out. Thank goodness, Cat did that for me! The tearful exchange between Cat and Bones at the end did make a tear fall from my eye. I must admit, I was truly hoping she’d tell him about her decision BEFORE she left. I’m not sure why she thought she had to save him when Bones is so old and powerful he can pretty much save himself AND all of them. I was a little disappointed I didn’t get my HEA. But from the looks of it, their time together is not done.
Overall, Halfway to the Grave is an AMAZZZZZING novel! I am definitely glad this is the series we chose for our read-a-long this year and I can’t wait to see Cat in action as a government agent in the next book, One Foot in the Grave.
“Kitten,” he moaned as he drew me down onto the bed. “I only thought I was living before I met you. You’ll love me until you die? That’s not nearly long enough…”
